Academic Opportunities

Education Abroad Program (EAP)

The EAP is the University of California’s international study program. Each year at least 4,000 students travel to nearly 50 countries worldwide to experience UC-quality academic excellence, cultural enhancement, and personal growth. IR/PS students are encouraged to participate in the EAP in their second year of study. Participation will necessitate a third year of study to meet MPIA requirements, but the opportunity provides unparalleled experience in the selected regional study area and language.

Complete information and application forms for campuses worldwide may be obtained from the Programs Abroad Office, International Center, (858) 534-1123.

Extension Courses

A limited number of seats are available without payment of additional fees in courses offered by UC San Diego Extension. The complimenary registration is open to full-time graduate students (twelve units or more) in good standing who have not taken a free Extension course in the previous two quarters.

Registration for extension courses opens about four weeks before the start of each quarter. Information is posted to the NEWS folder on First Class prior to the enrollment period. The number of spaces available each quarter varies and they are filled quickly, so early registration is encouraged.

These courses may not be used to meet degree requirements.
