BA/MIA Program

The Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Master of International Affairs is a five-year combined degree program offered by the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS) along with the International Studies Program (ISP).  The one-of-a-kind program is open only to selected majors in International Studies at UC San Diego.

The program retains and builds on the interdisciplinary core of the existing International Studies Bachelor of Arts degree and adds to it the professional training of a new one-year Master of International Affairs professional degree (year five of the combined program) suitable for a wide array of careers in international affairs focused on the Pacific region. This streamlined program incorporates graduate-level courses into the final year of study in the International Studies Program (their fourth year of study at UC San Diego).

The Program

Bachelor of Arts in International Studies - Years 1 Through 4

Students in the five-year combined degree program fulfill the existing requirements of either the International Studies-Economics or the International Studies-Political Science degrees with a specially designed program for the 5th year of study. The fourth year of the BA/MIA program begins to incorporate graduate-level course work at IR/PS.
