Head of South Korean army resigns
Sen Lam, Radio Australia
The head of South Korea's army General Hwang Eui-don has resigned.
Defence ministry officials confirmed that General Hwang resigned after media reports linked him to a financial scandal. His resignation comes amid heightened tensions on the Korean peninsula. It follows the resignation of the Defence minister, who was criticised for his response to Pyongyang's attack on a South Korean island, which killed four people. South Korea's military has been under intense domestic scrutiny, since the North Korean attack on Yeonpyeong island last month.
Stephan Haggard can provide commentary on current developments in the Asia-Pacific, including particularly Korea, and on the politics of economic reform and globalization.
