Korea-Pacific Program
The Korea-Pacific Program was founded in 1989 by Prof. Lawrence Krause (Emeritus) in recognition of the growing importance of Korea to the United States and to the Asia-Pacific more generally. The K-PP promotes greater understanding of contemporary Korea, both North and South, including international relations, politics, public policy and business environment.
To accomplish these objectives, the K-PP conducts activities in nine areas:
-
Teaching of core courses on Korea at the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS), where Korea is one of five regional concentrations
-
Organization and promotion of research, including joint research projects with other universities and institutes in the United States, Korea and the Asia-Pacific
-
A seminar series, including the annual Krause Lecture on Korea-Pacific Affairs
-
A visiting scholars program for faculty and other researchers
-
Promotion of IR/PS's International Career Associate Program, a program for mid-career professionals in the public and private sectors seeking executive education
-
Language instruction
-
Library development and acquisition of Korean language materials, including audiovisual materials
-
Promotion of fellowships and internships for IR/PS students interested in Korean studies
-
Outreach to the local community on current issues
The Korea-Pacific Program is currently directed by Stephan Haggard, the Krause Professor of Korea-Pacific Studies.
