Absences
Please notify Amanda Randolph Steidlmayer at (858) 534-7496 or Art Guaracha at (858) 534-1985 if you will miss a course session. We will notify your students via email and place an announcement at the classroom door. It is the responsibility of the faculty member to reschedule the course session for a time which all students are available. Extended absences must be approved by the Dean's Office prior to the absence. An absence is considered extended if the faculty member misses two or more class sessions.

Classroom Visits and Evaluations
Throughout the quarter, class sessions are visited as much as possible by the Director of Degree Programs and the Associate Dean.
During the last week of course, IR/PS students complete online course evaluations. Faculty members are asked to provide approximately twenty minutes during the last course session for students to complete these evaluations. Evaluations are compiled by Student Affairs and posted to First Class (the IR/PS internal network for students) before the following quarter. Please contact Student Affairs if you would like a copy of your course evaluation emailed to you.

First Class
First Class is the internal communication network for IR/PS students. It includes email, message boards for general announcements, and electronic conference boards for each class offered during the current quarter. At the time of your visiting faculty meeting, you will be assigned a username and password for the network. WIth that password you can use First Class to send and receive messages with your students, facilitate a course conference board, and distribute electronic course materials.
Please note that many students send messages and questions to the course conference boards under the assumption that the faculty member is checking the conference board. Student Affairs strongly encourages faculty members to use the First Class conference boards, as it is fairly simple way to deliver information to students. If you have any difficulty accessing your conference board, please contact Student Affairs who can deliver announcements and course materials to your conference board on your behalf.

Also, please include your office hours on the syllabus distributed to your students.
