Sheinwald joined the British Diplomatic Service in 1976 and has served in Washington (twice), Brussels (twice) and Moscow, and in a wide range of policy jobs in London.<br />=0d=0a<br />=0d=0aBefore becoming Ambassador in Washington, Sheinwald served as Foreign Policy and Defence Adviser to Prime Minister Tony Blair from 2003-07, where he met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and was involved in talks for the release of British sailors being held captive by Iran.&nbsp; As the UK Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the European Union in Brussels from 2000-03, he was involved with the Libya-Gaddafi meetings.</p>=0d=0a<p>This event is sponsored by IICAS America &amp; the World, IGCC, and IR/PS.<br />=0d=0a<br />=0d=0aRegistration is required.
