Phillip has expertise in financial analysis, operations management, and private-sector research. He has extensive work experience in Japan, where he taught English for several years and spent a year in Tokyo interning at the Industrial Bank of Japan Leasing Company (IBJL), one of the leading financial institutions in Japan. At IBJL, he monitored the changing macroeconomic conditions and financial regulation in various Asian countries and produced reports on how those changes affected the international operations of IBJL and the leasing industry as a whole. 

During his first year at IR/PS, Phillip served as the business director of the Journal of International Policy Solutions. Currently, Phillip is a managing director of the student-run consulting firm Export Access, where he has produced a number of reports that have quantified the economic impact that various institutions have had on San Diego County.
