Commencement Speaker - Ambassador Tim Roemer

Tim Roemer, former six-term U.S. representative for Indiana’s 3rd congressional district, most recently served as U.S. ambassador to India. He was charged with leading one of America’s largest diplomatic missions and was responsible for broadening and strengthening the U.S.-India partnership. He oversaw the implementation of several key policies and initiatives, including increasing cooperation, technology transfer and commercial sales in the defense and space industries; signing the Counterterrorism Cooperation Initiative to further expand cooperation in areas such as intelligence and homeland security, border security, money laundering and terrorist financing; and working with the United States to assist India on its Global Center for Nuclear Energy Partnership. He also emphasized commerce and exports, helping move India from America’s 25th-largest trading partner to 12th.

Earlier, Ambassador Roemer served for 12 years in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he was deeply engaged in efforts to improve access, standards and achievement for American education. He was a member of the 9/11 Commission and one of the first members of Congress to advocate for a more dynamic and entrepreneurial Department of Homeland Security.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California at San Diego and master’s and doctoral degrees in American government from the University of Notre Dame. He has received distinguished alumnus awards from both schools.

We recommend using the La Jolla Village Drive exit from the 5 freeway to avoid encountering traffic from other UC San Diego commencements.

After the ceremony, please leave your gown and hood in the designated boxes. Graduates can keep the cap and tassel, Dean's Fellows also keep their honor cords.

Commencement Photos
Guests are ask to refrain from approaching the stage during the commencement ceremony. Instead, a professional photographer will be at commencement to take your photo as you exit the stage. Photos will be available online for purchase after the ceremony.

The ceremonial certificate you receive at commencement is not a diploma. Degrees take several months to process. Diplomas are available approximately four to six months after graduation. Your diploma will be sent to the permanent address that you list on your degree paperwork (and it must match your address on TritonLink). If you do not receive your diploma within six months, please contact Academic Records at (858) 534-3144. Contact Student Affairs if you need verification of your graduate status before the issuance of your diploma; we will provide a letter from the Director of Degree Programs.

You may log into your Academic History within TritonLink to print an unofficial copy of your transcript. To order an official transcript, click here and follow the instructions on the Office of the Registrar website.

We recommend using the La Jolla Village Drive exit off the 5 freeway to avoid encountering traffic from other UC San Diego commencements.
