About Us

The Career Services team is here to serve you - we connect our students and alumni to top employers locally and internationally. Our primary goal is to give you the resources, support and guidance necessary to find career opportunities that align with your personal and professional goals. Career Services partners are global employers in the public, private and nonprofit sectors, who provide IR/PS students with internships and employment opportunities.

Meet the Team

 

Swanie Schmidt

Swanie Schmidt joined IR/PS in September 2002 following six years abroad and a successful international career working for European and Asian universities, a U.S. nonprofit career center, and a global outplacement firm. As a career management professional, she has designed and launched a wide variety of global career management projects. Working closely with alumni, faculty, and students, she is consistently recognized for her innovative and entrepreneurial style of career management. At IR/PS, she views the students as "citizens of the world" and finds their diversity and complexity most intriguing. Swanie enjoys balancing her efforts in individual consulting with facilitating workshops to help graduate students and alumni achieve their short and long term goals.

David Robertson

David Robertson joined IR/PS in September 2004. With a Master of Science degree in counseling from San Diego State University (SDSU), David has over 15 years of experience working in higher education. He has worked at local area universities and colleges managing and coordinating student programs and services, as well as teaching leadership development, career development and student success classes. As a manager, David has been responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating employees. Collaborative and committed to his work, he especially enjoys interaction with the diverse and talented students and cultures of IR/PS. At home, David is an avid runner and enjoys family life with his wife, two daughters and, Labrador Retriever.

Rosanne Lurie

Over the past decade Rosanne Lurie has worked as a career adviser, primarily in university student services including the career centers at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, San Francisco. She has a M.S. in career and college counseling, expertise in the development and marketing of career programs, as well as personal and professional experience in the international arena. Rosanne wrote WetFeet, Inc.'s "Killer Cover Letters and Resumes" and expanded the "Insider's Guide for Getting the Ideal Internship." Rosanne joined the IR/PS team in fall 2004. She enjoys contributing to the resources available to IR/PS graduate students, and supporting them in pursuing careers that utilize their academic training. She finds the commitment of both the students and the staff to their global endeavors one of the most rewarding aspects of her job at IR/PS.

Nurit Mandel

Nurit Mandel joined IR/PS in February 2004 and has been working with graduate students in the San Diego area for seven years. She has held recruiting and advising positions in both nonprofit and private sector organizations and also has a background in event coordination. She was drawn to IR/PS because of the international flavor the students contribute to the overall atmosphere. She loves the fact that the students are "brilliant, but also down to earth and not afraid to roll up their sleeves to help their local and global communities". Nurit enjoys spending time with her family and is an ardent reader.
