Each year, IR/PS Alumni seek to recognize graduates for success in their careers and contributions to society. This honor is given to those who exemplify the positive contributions IR/PS graduates make through their careers, volunteer work and community involvement.
Awards are made for outstanding achievement in any of the following areas:
- Professional achievement
- Volunteer work
- Single exceptional achievement
- Service to IR/PS
Nominations are due no later than April 23. An IR/PS Alumni Selection Committee will review the nominations and determine the award recipient by May 1. Awards will be presented on Saturday, June 14 at the annual Family & Friends Commencement Reception at the UC San Diego Faculty Club.

The 2013 Outstanding Award Winner is Emily Murase, MPIA '90.
Emily has served as Executive Director of the San Francisco Department on the Status of Women since 2004 and most recently elected as one of seven Board Commissioners for the San Francisco Public Schools. Emily was a member of the Class of 1990, the second graduating class of what was at the time the newest professional school in the University of California system. There, she served as President of the Pacific International Affairs Student Organization and received the Wyman Award at graduation.
